Your Week 17 Television Maps

Well Falcons fans, it’s certainly been a wild ride through the 2009 television season. If you’re lucky you’ve seen some funny moments on broadcasts (maybe even a lineman pulling a little kickoff duty). We’ve seen triumphs and defeats before audiences large and small. Now it’s time to make plans for one final weekend of Falcons football before [...]

Previewing a Homecoming

No, that’s not a photo of Christopher Owens. That’s a previous Falcons No. 21 that went to two Pro Bowls as a shutdown corner. You probably don’t need a guess but, if you took one, here’s the answer: DeAngelo Hall. Hall, now a member of the Washington Redskins returns to the Georgia Dome for the first time since [...]

Report: Newberry to Retire

UPDATE: The team confirmed Newberry’s retirement in a Wednesday morning press release, which can be found here. Multiple reports on the Internet say recently-acquired Falcons lineman Jeremy Newberry will retire from the NFL. ProFootballTalk.com first reported the story, which gained traction through the afternoon. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted Newberry’s agent Tuesday evening. “His knees just kind of gave out [...]

Falcons Sign Free Agent Center

The Falcons announced the signing of free agent center Jeremy Newberry Monday afternoon, adding more offensive line depth before the team enters its final week of OTAs. This marks the fourth NFL team for Newberry, who spent the first nine years of his career in San Francisco before making single-season stops in Oakland and San Diego. The [...]

The Mock Draft: Version 7.0

The NFL Draft is just more than two days away and speculation is in high gear. When I first had the idea to do a series of mock drafts leading up to this epic offseason event I was ignorant to the various opinions held by the Falcons fan base. You all opened my eyes to more possibilities [...]

The Mock Draft: Version 6.0

We’ve reached a turning point with the Mock Draft. It is, in many ways, the point of no return. Six weeks ago I started presenting you with various scenarios for the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, including a lengthy list of possible selections for the Falcons with the No. 24 pick. At times I’ve felt [...]

The Mock Draft: Version 5.0

I should have known the moment I started getting cocky something would come along and smack me back into reality. Just when I thought I was inspiring some discussion and throwing out wild, though plausible, scenarios NFL news and a few wise comments mixed things up. Now I’m starting to realize the stress and scrutiny that [...]

The Mock Draft: Version 4.0

It’s taken me four weeks and several mistakes but I think I’m getting the hang of this whole mock draftin’ thing. Sure, it’s not perfect. Is this how the draft will pan out for the Falcons or the rest of the NFL? Probably not pick-by-pick. But I think these scenarios are leading to interesting conversations. Like Homer [...]

The Mock Draft: Version 3.0

Three weeks into the mock draft and I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. Or at least I’ve found something that seems to suit me. Like Homer Simpson morphing into “Dancing Homer,” I feel like I’m spreading some cheer while having little fun. Then again, like Homer Simpson dancing on top of a dugout, [...]

The Mock Draft: Version 1.0

This could go well or, like Homer Simpson conducting a monorail, I could be horribly unfit for this job and the mock draft spiral out of control. Either way we’re in for a wild ride and a little fun, right!? Keep in mind this is one man’s opinion. No. 1 — Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford, Georgia In a perfect [...]
