Head Coach Mike Smith said he received a letter from the NFL office in New York Thursday morning informing him of a disciplinary fine for his role in a sideline altercation in Sunday’s game against the Redskins. Smith said he accepts the fine and, along with his team, wants to move on to this week’s game [...]

Falcons tackle Sam Baker and Panthers center Ryan Kalil will host their first football camp at Servite High School in Anaheim, Calif. Saturday. The former USC roommates turned NFL linemen expect 400 7th to 12th grade athletes and close to three-dozen coaches to attend the event, which they funded. It’s one of many camps hosted by Falcons [...]

Birdseed: July 15, 2009

The Minnesota Vikings hosted the 2009 NFL High School Player Development National 7-on-7 Tournament last weekend. The group representing the Falcons from North Cobb High School made it to the championship, but fell to the undefeated Miami Dolphins contingent 48-38. North Cobb won the regional tournament late last month. According to a Vikings press release, more than 10,000 [...]

Birdseed: March 16, 2009

The emotional reports out of Denver concerning quarterback Jay Cutler, head coach Josh McDaniels and others in the Broncos front office got me thinking about the city and its loyal devotion to its teams. Spend just a few hours in the Mile High City and you’ll see how attached the local sports culture is to the [...]

Weekend Free Agent Rumblings

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com cites a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer speculating that tight end L.J. Smith may have a renewed interest in the Falcons. The news comes more than a week after Smith initially visited with team officials. That visit was nearly a week after the first news of mutual interest between the Falcons [...]

The Mock Draft: Version 2.0

Somewhere between reading the comments on Mock Draft 1.0 and researching updates on my draft predictions I realized something I should have taken into account before I came up with this crazy idea. Be careful on the expectations you set. Like Homer Simpson running for sanitation commissioner, I wonder if I’m making outlandish claims impossible to backup. Then [...]

The first reports of draft prospects visiting the Falcons in Flowery Branch are starting to surface around the Internet and they include familiar names. According to Scout.com, USC linebacker Clay Matthews will work out for the team after his pro day. The son of the former Falcons linebacker of the same name, Matthews walked on at USC [...]

Birdseed: March 13, 2009

Random find while sharpening the YouTube search skills… Now for some thoughts. 1. Love the fact the Falcons are in the Super Bowl and made it through the playoffs after a 10-6 regular season. But, if you’re going to use the “rewind” function and cancel out a bad play, shouldn’t the team have gone 16-0? (I see the [...]

Birdseed: March 12, 2009

Is it just me or did the free agency news pipeline suddenly dry up like gas supplies in Atlanta after hurricanes Gustov and Ike? The Falcons made a couple moves earlier in the week and likely aren’t done in the free agent bargain hunt. But everything’s gotten eerily quiet over the last two days. Maybe the free [...]

The Mock Draft: Version 1.0

This could go well or, like Homer Simpson conducting a monorail, I could be horribly unfit for this job and the mock draft spiral out of control. Either way we’re in for a wild ride and a little fun, right!? Keep in mind this is one man’s opinion. No. 1 — Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford, Georgia In a perfect [...]
