Long Snapper Void Refilled
The Falcons ended the 2009 season with a long snapper on injured reserve and a long snapper on the active roster. Thursday afternoon one of those players, Mike Schneck, announced his retirement. The other, in-season replacement Joe Zelenka, became an unrestricted free agent early Friday morning.
That left Atlanta with a void to fill at a [...]

A Welcome Back and a Goodbye
Thursday was a day of mixed emotions in Falcons camp as a veteran, versatile cornerback opted to return on a contract extension and a decorated long snapper decided to hang up his cleats.
The team announced Brian Williams will return for the 2010 season after signing a new contract. Terms were not disclosed. Thursday also marked [...]

Your Week 15 TV Distribution Maps
We’ve reached the point in the season where more games are played on days other than Sunday. Take, for example, Thursday’s game between the Colts and Jaguars, Saturday’s game between the Saints and Cowboys (Falcons playoff implications galore) and Monday night’s game featuring the Giants and Redskins (even more Falcons playoff implications).
Next week a Friday [...]

Making Monday Moves
The Falcons just announced the release of safety Jamaal Fudge, a move necessary to keep the roster at 53 players with the addition of cornerback/safety Brian Williams.
A graduate of Clemson, Fudge was originally signed by the Falcons off of waivers on Sept. 2, 2008. Last season, he competed in 10 games and recorded 12 tackles.
Notably [...]

Sunday Moves Include Big News
The Falcons agreed to terms with veteran defensive back Brian Williams Sunday evening, adding a versatile player that is familiar with Head Coach Mike Smith’s style of defense.
Williams played under Smith — then the Jaguars’ defensive coordinator — in 2006 and 2007, starting 29 games at cornerback. The eight-year veteran has 93 starts (107 games), [...]

Measuring Defensive Intensity
It’s not unusual for defenses to have the upper hand in the opening days of an NFL training camp. But something about the Falcons intensity level over the past five practices seems more sustainable.
Veteran linebacker Mike Peterson, who signed a free agent deal with the team in March, said the defensive unit has the necessary [...]

Team Makes it Official with Winborn
Two days after the first reports that veteran linebacker Jamie Winborn had “agreed to terms” with the team, the Falcons signed the linebacker to a contract.
The deal was done Saturday morning before the first training camp practice. Winborn is on the field wearing No. 49.
To make room for the nine-year veteran, the team released rookie [...]

Looking at Leadership
A handful of Falcons veterans got a break during the team’s three-day mini camp last weekend.
Head Coach Mike Smith opted to give some members of the “Over 30 Club” a chance to sit out a practice or two and mentor younger teammates.
Linebacker Mike Peterson, 32, wasn’t among them.
“We tried to go through our Over 30 [...]

The Mock Draft: Version 7.0
The NFL Draft is just more than two days away and speculation is in high gear.
When I first had the idea to do a series of mock drafts leading up to this epic offseason event I was ignorant to the various opinions held by the Falcons fan base.
You all opened my eyes to more possibilities [...]
