Giordano Brings Depth to Secondary

Tuesday the Falcons dipped the toe back in the free agent market, signing a player who spent 2009 with the Green Bay Packers. Safety Matt Giordano is the newest member of the defensive backfield. The team also released cornerback Tye Hill Tuesday afternoon. Giordano, a graduate of California, just finished his fifth season in the NFL, though it [...]

Falconcast: A Super Bowl Preview

Around two weeks ago I chronicled some reasons why Falcons fans should root for the Saints in Super Bowl XLIV. Judging from various user comments, I underestimated how much Falcons lovers dislike the Saints. A whopping 59 percent of those who voted with an in-blog poll will not root for the Saints (7 percent just don’t [...]

Adding on the Defensive Line

The Falcons made another move to add depth along the defensive line for the offseason Monday afternoon, signing Dan Klecko to a reserve/future contract. According to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Klecko is the son of former Jets player Joe Klecko. Klecko, 5-foot-11, 275 pounds, was originally selected by the Patriots in the 2003 NFL Draft. [...]

Your Week 17 Television Maps

Well Falcons fans, it’s certainly been a wild ride through the 2009 television season. If you’re lucky you’ve seen some funny moments on broadcasts (maybe even a lineman pulling a little kickoff duty). We’ve seen triumphs and defeats before audiences large and small. Now it’s time to make plans for one final weekend of Falcons football before [...]

Your Week 16 Television Maps

Two games remain in the Falcons 2009 season and they will likely be shown to smaller audiences. Such is the case for teams with no spot in the playoffs facing opponents with losing records. This week, according to rule, the Falcons game will be on CBS. The visiting team dictates which network the game will be [...]

Finishing a Playoff Picture

The Falcons (7-7) were eliminated from playoff contention with the Cowboys upset win over the Saints Saturday night. The team responded with a character-filled victory over the playoff-hopeful New York Jets. The next two games down’t offer a chance to be much of a spoiler but they do give Atlanta a chance to post a back-to-back [...]

Your Week 15 TV Distribution Maps

We’ve reached the point in the season where more games are played on days other than Sunday. Take, for example, Thursday’s game between the Colts and Jaguars, Saturday’s game between the Saints and Cowboys (Falcons playoff implications galore) and Monday night’s game featuring the Giants and Redskins (even more Falcons playoff implications). Next week a Friday [...]

Your Week 14 Television Maps

I have a bad habit when it comes to these NFL television distribution maps. Each week, like a child on Christmas morning, I open the links and find the games televised in Atlanta for the coming weekend. At this point I remember it doesn’t matter what games are before/after or opposite the Falcons game. I’m working. There’s [...]

Your Week 13 Television Breakdown…

When Michael Vick first signed with the Philadelphia Eagles I thought Sunday’s game could be flexed to the prime time spot on NBC. As both Atlanta and Philadelphia moved toward top rivals in the NFC Wild Card chase, I was almost sure it would happen. Shows what I know. Minnesota and Arizona stays locked in on [...]

Maps and Notes for Week 12 Television

Two things are certain on Thanksgiving: I’ll fall into a food comma at some point because of Mrs. J. Mike’s delicious cooking. The Lions will play (and probably lose). Before I turn on the office television to watch a little Thanksgiving pigskin and, later, go home to a feast, I’ll detail a little about the weekend television schedule. (It’s [...]
