The Law’s in Town
Had a chance to catch up with visiting NFL officials today. I have to be honest, it’s one of my favorite days in Russell Falcons Training Camp.
Each year the league sends a group of officials to camps across the country to talk to players and coaches about rules change and points of emphasis for the [...]

Birdseed: August 5, 2009
A lot of talk over the past few days about the consistency the Falcons are enjoying from Year 1 to Year 2 of the Mike Smith-Thomas Dimitroff era.
“Well, we’re ahead of where we were last year, because of the familiarity with one another,” Smith said. “We’re a group of men and when we come together [...]

Birdseed: May 1, 2009
Semi-related commentary and news to kick off the weekend edition of Birdseed…
I spend the majority of my day on the Internet.
It’s where I get most of my news, gossip and entertainment.
But sometimes I need to hold a newspaper. I need the ink to smudge on my fingers. There’s a feeling in that experience not easily [...]

Notes on a Workout Warrior
BLOGGER’S NOTE: This is part of a series of features about various NFL Draft prospects. Click here for more on offensive linemen and details about “Draft Discussions” on AF.com.
A 6-foot-7, 309-pound man should not be able to run 40 yards in 4.89 seconds.
It defies physics and logic.
But it happened.
Nebraska tackle Lydon Murtha ran 120 feet [...]

Report: Some Birds Agree to Terms
Free agency is under way but, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Falcons made some moves Thursday to ensure some contributors from 2008 remain in Atlanta.
According to Ledbetter, tight end Justin Peelle, linebacker Coy Wire, defensive tackle Jason Jefferson and center Ben Wilkerson agreed to terms to stay with the team. [...]

Workouts: What Do They Really Mean?
If you've watched any of the Scouting Combine workouts on NFL Network you've probably found yourself wondering exactly what scouts are looking for.
Some drills are obvious… It's good for players to run fast. Good times in the 40-yard dash reflect a fast player.
More specific, position-oriented drills are a little more ambiguous to the average [...]

A Salute to the 'Team Mom'
I did not play football growing up.
Baseball was my game and I remember the sight of the field, the smell of the dirt and the taste of Gatorade and bubble gum (accept for that year with an orthodontic contraption that prevented me from one of life's greatest candy pleasures).
And I remember my mom cheering [...]

Frightening Times with Peria Jerry
<img src="http://life.atlantafalcons.com/uploads/1233097537/gallery_196523_193_6204.jpg">
Ole Miss defensive tackle Peria Jerry was one of the last players to be brought into the NFL Combine media room before it closed Sunday afternoon.
They certainly left one of the best — and largest — for last.
Jerry is 6-foot-1, 299-pound player who looms larger than his measurements.
His presence fills a room.
His [...]

Workout Results Heating up in Indy
Media availability for Combine participants ended Sunday afternoon signifying the return trip of the AF.com team back to familiar ground in Flowery Branch.
With no access to players or workouts I, like the rest of the fan world, must watch the proceedings on NFL Network and get official results on NFL.com.
The "speed" players completed their requirements [...]
