Harris Heading to Injured Reserve

Head Coach Mike Smith confirmed Monday afternoon defensive back and special teams ace Antoine Harris is on his way to injured reserve. Harris tore a PCL in his knee in Sunday’s victory over the New York Jets.

Harris was credited with one special teams tackle in Sunday’s game. For the season, the three-year veteran out of Louisville had two special teams stops. Harris has played in 35 games over the past two season for the Birds, totaling 10 tackles on defense, an additional eight special teams stops and a forced fumble.

“We lost another player yesterday,” Smith said. “He injured his knee covering a punt… So we will be making that roster move today and will be adding a player to our roster very shortly whether it’s this evening or tomorrow.

“It’s tough to see another guy go down but it’s part of football.”

Smith said other injured players are making progress.

For a third straight week the team played without starting guard Harvey Dahl. He did have some work in team drills before the Jets game and is making his way back to the lineup. Smith said Chris Houston (hamstring) and Jamaal Anderson (chest) worked with trainers Monday morning.

After looking at the film, the coach said he saw no ill will from the Jets on a first quarter tackle that aggravated Michael Turner’s ankle injury and pushed him out of the game after just one carry. Smith said the team’s Pro Bowl runner had a smile on his face Monday and that he’s back for more rehab in hopes of a quick return.

    Hi Mike,

Can you tell me about John Abraham – is he ok – not many sacks this year.

How about Sidbury – is he progressing well – doesn’t seem to play as much as I would have thought.

Is M. Turner’s ankle back where it was, or getting better after yesterday ?

    Thank you,
    Jeff

John Abraham has had some bumps and bruises but I think a big reason for his lack of production is how teams have changed their schemes. The loss of Peria Jerry hurt the Falcons inside pass rush and the team has struggled as a whole to get to the quarterback. Sibury has one sack and has looked good in increased playing time of late. Head Coach Mike Smith said Turner is back in the training room trying to get the ankle right and that the Pro Bowler “had a smile on his face” Monday.

I am so proud of this organization and the way they have performed over the last few weeks. In this league many teams and Falcons teams of the past would have folded up shop and started backing the U-Haul up getting ready for the offseason, but not our Mike Smith Falcons. Kudos to Coach Smith and staff for pushing these guys even though we were eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday night.

Another thing I was wondering. Where is Trey Lewis? Is he injured, he hasn’t been on the field over the last few weeks? And Chris Owens to me is gaining valuable experience at CB which I feel will be huge for his future.

    Sincerely
    Mr. Ross

How long was the field goal that we missed. It appeared to be in the 50 yd range, and with that wind.

there has to be something to this injury bug that has hit the Birds lately. I mean aren’t the trainers we have top notch? Championship teams have enough quality depth to overcome injury set backs. We have to do better then this. J Mike the next time your close to TD let him know that we, the fans, are counting on him to bring top knotch players into the Falcons Family.

    DON’T LET US DOWN!!!!!!!!
Here’s to the Falcons winning out the rest of the season.

    GO FALCONS!!!!

for starters, great victory against the jets! chris owens looked real good all game except for that blown coverage on the deep ball to braylon edwards. our pass rush picked up a bit but still not where we need to be. you got a sack! good for you abe, keep it up but also thank the secondary for it. i wish tony g was 10 years younger so he and matty ice could mature together but i guess thats what the draft is for. in this upcoming draft, i think we need to keep owens, houston, grimes, jackson and draft one more corner or if not a corner a safety to help decoud(the only legitemite safety we have). we also need to draft an o linemen for depth, an outside linebacker, and a tightend(it would be good to get a young tightend in before tony g retires).i would say we need another wide receiver and d linemen but the injuries to douglas and jerry really really hurt. other than that, the falcons look great, now lets go get our first back to back winning seasons. GO FALCONS!

Chris Owens looked good in that game except for one play and Grimes i think always plays good he is always trying to make plays which is nice to see we need to keep them too and Matty Ice is back no turnovers that is also nice to see

It was a 48-yard FG that we missed.
It was nice to see how much better the secondary and the d-line looked when they worked together. Keep it up! 9-7!
