Welcome Back, Warrick!

jmm-wdunn121709The Falcons announced plans Thursday to bring Warrick Dunn back to the franchise as a minority owner. The deal will reunite the team with one of its most popular players and record holders.

Dunn, a running back who joined the NFL with the Buccaneers in 1997, signed with the Falcons in 2002. It was in Atlanta he became the 22nd player in NFL history to rush for 10,000 yards in a career and the seventh to rush for more than 10,000 yards and reach at least 4,000 receiving yards.

He spent the 2008 season in Tampa Bay.

“This opportunity fulfills one of my professional goals to expand my knowledge and experience in the area of NFL team management, branding and operations,” Dunn said in a statement.  “I am excited to be back as part of the Falcons team and, in particular, to work with Mr. Blank.”

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Dunn should officially take part ownership in March.

“During his tenure with the Falcons and throughout his NFL career, Warrick represented the highest of NFL standards on and off the field,” said Falcons Owner and CEO Arthur Blank, who continues to own more than 90 percent of the franchise.  “Warrick has a special affinity for the Falcons, as we do for him, and we are very happy he will be back in the Falcons family representing our club as a limited partner.”

An active participant in the community, Dunn joins six other limited partners. As a minority owner, he also takes a seat on the Falcons Board of Advisors.

This is such great news. Warrick is one of the most compassionate football players I have ever seen, and his generosity is unrivaled. I’m proud to have him back as a part of the Falcon’s family. My only regret is that this shuts the door on him suiting up at some point and taking the field :) Warrick always got a couple extra yards at the end of each play…

Welcome back. We missed you, and we are glad you still like the ATL.

After Finnegan was nominated for the same award, I wondered if that is the kudos the Falcs give near the end of the career. Our family is glad you won the award and did so well in the “DVD” offense.
