Bergeron Returns to Active Roster

The Falcons announced the release of veteran fullback Verron Haynes and promoted wide receiver Troy Bergeron from the practice squad Saturday afternoon.

The move adds a body to a receiving corps that will be without Brian Finneran Sunday (click here for the Bucs-Falcons Injury Report). Haynes provided depth and a special teams presence, but injured backs Jerious Norwood (hip) and Michael Turner (ankle) increased their practice time during the week and are nearing a return.

Bergeron, 6-foot-2, 195 lbs., played with the Georgia Force of the now defunct Arena Football League for three seasons, totalling  328 receptions for 4,335 yards and 96 touchdowns. He was named the AFL Rookie of the Year in 2005 and was a second-team All-Arena selection in 2007.

He was a mini camp addition that stuck through 2009 training camp in Flowery Branch. Though he was released on the final cut day before the regular season, he was quickly signed to the practice squad. He was promoted to the 53-man roster before the team’s game at Carolina in Week 9 but released the following week to make room for running back Aaron Stecker.

Haynes was signed by the Falcons as a free agent on April 29, 2009. He competed in six games with one start and tallied three receptions for 20 yards

This is a great move, one the Falcon Fans have waited for all year, this kid is exciting and fast,he’s got great hands and will get alot of YAC’s if given the chance. The Falcons brought him up one time this year, but did not give him any action.I think with Finn out and M.’butter-fingers”Jenkins strugglin to catch even the simplest catch,he should get a chance to play real soon.Bergeron and Weems can be very dangerous and welcomed weapons for Ryan, they jus need to get in there and get sum playing time.So great job and congrats #11,youve been patient, and i hope it pays off for you and the Falcon’s…..This Falcon can fly!!

Finn is not on the roster to be a speed receiver. He’s a possession receiver, something he’s very good at when healthy.
I have nothing against Bergeron and I hope he does well but let’s not go writing Finn off just yet. He’s an excellent third down option when Gonzales is covered up.

Maaaaaaaan! c’mon now i been asked them to add bergeron to the roster. why? because matt never had enough targets. thats part of his slump anyways. And this is no trashy player. Bergeron is a non exposed wes welker. i bet they keep him in the gameplan for next year. finn has been a ? for the past two season. WE NEEDED TB. THANKS FOR RECOGNIZING!!!!!!!!!
