Peprah Added to Secondary

November 4th, 2009

jmm-cpeprah110409The Falcons injury situation in the secondary took a turn for the worse Wednesday as the team placed recently re-signed safety Jamaal Fudge on injured reserve.

In his place, Atlanta brought in four-year veteran safety Charlie Peprah.

Fudge, who was with the team in 2008 and the preseason, was re-signed on Oct. 20 after the team placed starting cornerback Brian Williams on injured reserve. The team also lost second-round pick safety William Moore (hamstring) for the season last week.

Thomas DeCoud and Erik Coleman have started every game at safety in 2009 but injury concerns have hit the reserve unit hard with Moore and Antoine Harris, who returned to the lineup last week after missing four games with a knee injury.Wor

Peprah, 5-11, 203 pounds, spent the past three seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2006-08). He was released by the Packers following training camp this season.

In 37 career games (one start), the Alabama graduate has totaled 21 tackles (10 solo) and forced two fumbles on special teams in 2007.

At Alabama, Peprah played in 50 games (45 starts) at multiple positions in the secondary. He finished his career with 210 tackles, nine interceptions, five fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles and 24 passes defensed. He was a first-team All American (The NFL Draft Report) as a senior.

    In TD/ Smitty we BELIEVE!

At this point, in season…….I sincerely hope there are NO further more injuries.

Well i heard MIke Smith on Falcons Life saying they’d put two players on I.R. Do you know who’s the other one? I hope he won’t be Norwood. I really like this player. I know he’s injury prone, but he’s one of the most electrifying players in the league. He’s also in his contract year, so i’m fearing a release if he cannot perform.
Or perhaps Mike Smith made a mistake…
Enayone who know something more about this second player put in I.R.?

Do what you have to do, but getting rid of Norwood would be a mistake… They didn’t get rid of Finneran and he has stepped up. He was injured and not playing good when he got injured……I, too believe in TD and Smitty but they need to stop fixing what is not broken….. We had a good year (for a change) last year and they got rid of our best on D and replaced them with young meat. I understand building a team but keep some vets to teach the game (then let them go) instead of bringing in the rookies to learn from inexperienced players…..I don’t get it!!!!!!!

Another short player on D, compared to the height of OUR opponents height!!!!!!

I also agree with saying we need taller defensive players.

This guy is tall compared to 5′8 and 5′9. I just hope he is good and wrapping up and able to tackle!

Agree, but Finneran wasn’t in his contract year when he was injured… With Norwood they can simply choose to not re-sign him… Hopefully this won’t happen….

well i agree that the defense still needs work but we cant forget that we need to put some blame on Jason Elam …look at the game against the dolphins he missed 2 kicks in that game luckily we still won that game by a good margin…but against the saints if he would have made those 2 kicks i feel deep down that you could have made that loss a win….we need to either release Elam or go ahead and add that position to the improvement list for next year.

Dang it, did i miss something? Who’s the other injured guy? jamaal fudge isnt strong enough to compete like coleman and decoud, although theyve played hard without a choice. The best thing about brian will is that he could play nearly the entire secondary as needed. Whats so special about this guy?

We need two new corners both are to small and they get beat deep all the time

The Corners are also getting Abraham and Bierman killed. If they can’t cover any longer than that what good is a pass rush? Saints ran three step drops all day. Chris Houston sorry a$$ has to go. Atleast when Brent Grimes gets beat its usually due to size.

Yeah, I agree that Elam has not performed adequately enough to be retained. You can’t miss easy kicks against division rivals and survive in my opinion. Gotta be 20 or 30 kickers available that could do at least as well as he has done so far.
