The Falcons took the field at the Allstate All-Access Roam the Dome Saturday with two goals: Work hard and put on a show.
With thousands of fans in attendance and a mock game that featured turnovers and three touchdown passes, both missions were accomplished.
Head Coach Mike Smith split his roster and ran the team through 11-on-11 stretches across the Georgia Dome turf. The red team won the mock game, 21-6.
Quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Michael Jenkins had the early highlight — a 28-yard touchdown strike up the seam in the first half.
On the next series with the first team, Ryan found newly-acquired tight end Tony Gonzalez on three straight passes, including a 10-yard play to the end zone for a score over safety Jamaal Fudge.
Chris Redman also threw a touchdown pass, finding Ben Hartsock from 6 yards out in the second half of play.
Three times the white team, quarterbacked by John Parker Wilson and D.J. Shockley marched into the red zone. Two stops were treated as field goals. The third trip ended with a Brent Grimes interception.

SOME NOTES FROM THE FIELD…
… The session opened with some punt return work. Eric Weems, Chandler Williams, Brian Finneran and Grimes lined up as return men, with Grimes showing some nifty moves. The team needs to find a new return man since Harry Douglas (knee) is out for the season.
… The first-team defense allowed just one first down on the opening possession helped, in part, by a John Abraham sack of Shockley (no contact, of course).
… On offense, Finneran and Jenkins were the top two receivers with the first team. Former arena football star Troy Bergeon was the first man in for three-receiver packages but the team also showed plenty of two-tight end looks.
… Ryan made a bit of a fashion statement, wearing black sweat pants instead of shorts with his red practice jersey. Kind of looked like he rolled out of bed Saturday morning, had a cup of coffee and decided to go be an NFL quarterback.
… Defensive end Lawrence Sidbury and defensive tackle Peria Jerry, 2009 Draft selections, worked with the second team defense. Curtis Lofton and Trey Lewis sat out, pushing Thomas Johnson into the rotation at defensive tackle and Tony Gilbert to first-team middle linebacker.
… Smith was all over the field, watching the scrimmage from behind the offense and talking to his staff via headset. He also alerted officials to a missed face mask and gave quick, direct instruction to both sides of the ball.
… William Moore, who is out for the next one to four weeks after minor knee surgery, did not play. Thomas DeCoud and Erik Coleman continue their work as first-team safeties.
… Cornerback Chris Houston, who played with the first-team defense broke up a would-be touchdown pass from John Parker Wilson to tight end Jason Rader.

Took my two boys (ages 7 and 5) and we really enjoyed it. It was fun to walk around and check things out from different sections.
The Ryan-to-Gonzalez Show at the end of the first half was something else. Looked like men amongst boys.
Some other quick observations:
Redman has to remain the backup QB, because he just looks more experienced and comfortable with the offense than D.J.
Turner and Norwood look great. Turner especially looks ready to start running over some people.
Jenkins looks like he could be the No. 1 receiver, given the chance. But I’m not sure how we’re going to stretch the field without Roddy and Harry.
Don’t know what to make of our secondary yet. Ryan and Gonzalez is not a fair test!
I enojyed Roam the Dome last year. Very easy and accesible to get tickets for the player autographs. This year it was very unorganized. We ended up with one ticket, while I know many did not. Where were the tickets? Everywhere we went said they “were out”, however the tickets kept multiplying. Finally we manged to trade into the Gonzalez line, and Tony Gonzalez decided he was done with a good 50 fans still in line only because of him. I know he has other things and their were time limits, but that just doesn’t seem like a good way to get welcomed to Atlanta to me.
@Dave
Roddy just signed an extension.
I AGREE WITH WILLIAM THE STAFF WAS NOT VERY ORGANIZED THIS YEAR. LAST YEAR WAS GREAT. I TOOK MY SON FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO GET A COUPLE OF AUTOGRAPHS,BUT I DO HAVE TO SAY FOR THE STAFF MISHAPS, THE PLAYERS MADE MY SON FEEL REAL WELCOMED AND APPRECIATED. THEY INTERACTED WITH HIM IN THE DRILLS AND WE GOT SOME REAL NICE PICS WITH HEAD COACH MIKE SMITH AND PLAYERS ON THE FIELD. HATS OFF TO THE TEAM BRING THE LAMBARDI TROPHY HOME TO ATLANTA. GO FALCONS
I went to the event, thought there wasn’t that much to do… Some off the things listed on the website were not available unless I just missed the team video and locker room tours. But the workout was cool, Tony looks awesome, Grimes is still a beast!
No autograph tickets for season ticket holders witch was crap. Last year they had a line just for season ticket holders to make sure we got autograph tickets. I had season tickets for 10+ years now and felt like we got shafted. Don’t forget about the people that spend alot of money every year. Very disapointed.
Tonight is the start; the Hall of Fame Game. I can hear Hank Jr. shouting “Are you ready for some football???” and I dang sure am!
The Falcs need a theme song… something that rattles the soul and shakes the booty!
Somebody, crack that keg and sing dammit, SING!
Is it me,or does it look like Grimes is going to take a starting position!
Very unorganized. At the roam in dome, we were treated like a waste of time, like we as season ticket holders were being a burden on the “event staff”. I’ve had received warmer hospitality from a New York City cab driver. Pathetic. No season tix for my future.
quit crying season ticket holders about not being treated well enough. you pay to get tickets to go to games, not for all the falcons to hold your hand at practices. if your kid didnt get an autograph, sign a football yourself with tony gonzalez’s name. problem solved.
I enjoyed watching the scrimmage. There was not much to do besides that. I was mailed 4 tickets which there were only 2 different sections. Why would i need 2 of the same sections. Tony G did a bad thing and stopped signing with 50 plus still in line to get autograph. i saw turner and norwood signing group stay longer than anyone other player so my hat goes off to them. I did get shafted when Thomas Brown acted like he was signing my helmet walking off the field but once i recieved my helmet back the was no signature from T. Brown. What Up with That?
I think this year really sucked. Last year I was able to get a few autographs but this year there was no option. I am a season ticket holder and dont think I was given a fair chance to get tickets to the full roster autograph secion. I have been a fan for years but I didnt go to the roam the dome because my agent told me since the tickes were limited and not a chance of getting a autograph I wasn’t about to waste my time. I LOVE the Falcons, but get real. I know there are season ticket holders that has been there for years and didnt get a shot at autographes. My agent told me first come first served.” BUT DID SEASON TICKET HOLDERS EVEN GET A CHANCE TO GET TICKETS FOR THE FULL ROSTER SIGNING. Yeah, I will always be A fan. To whom it concerns and to someone who caers please listen.
I really don’t have the money to be a season ticket holder but I wanted it so bad that I am in dept with season ticket for the last 2 years. I know the Falcons has a lot of fans, but you are a true fan if you can rute for them during a bad season. Which I feel all fans can’t be a [TRUE FAN] unless you go all the way [WIN OR LOOSE]
