Head Coach Mike Smith confirmed after Thursday afternoon’s practice that rookie safety William Moore will miss two to four weeks while he recovers from a minor surgical procedure.
“William had a procedure done on his knee,” the coach said. “The procedure was done earlier today in response to an injury that occurred two days ago.
“It’s nothing major but, of course, anytime you lose a guy — especially a rookie — that’s not going to have the opportunity to work on the field he’s going to have to do some extra work in the classroom.”
Moore, a second-round pick in April’s draft, spent mini camp, OTAs and the opening days of training camp working with the second-team defense. He was, however, expected to push second-year man Thomas DeCoud for a spot in the starting lineup.
His work continues in the classroom, where he already noted a challenge.
“Obviously we all have the physical tools to be in here but it’s all mental, especially in this game,” Moore said earlier in the week. “At my position, safety, we control the whole defense.”
Moore recorded 248 career tackles and 11 interceptions at Missouri.

so when he said 2-4 weeks does that mean 2-4 week when the season oficially starts?
he had the surgery yesterday i guess and will be eligible to join the team for the opener i think so >>>.
2-4 weeks form this point on. so he’ll miss next weeks training camp and the first week of pre-season atleats. at most he wont be availible until the last week of pre-season.
First HD now moore whats next matt ryan… (knock on wood). ahhhhhhhhhhhhhjust perfect there goes the season. down the crapper!!!
Minor set backs. This team is a lot more strong willed and too talented to let these things affect their playing abilities. Adversity only makes a team stronger. These past 2 days have been tough with HD, Moore and with what’s going on with White…but dont overlook all of the positive aspects going on in camp.
Are the Falcons playing on some Native American sacred burial ground or something? I think they are really cursed…all great when Ryan was a rookie, and then the TG signing…but then again, they were 11-5 last year so now they’ll be 5-11…And Robert Furgeson?? He was good in Green Bay, but that was what eight years ago!
man, we just cant get back to back winning seasons can we? It never fails! Anymore bad news and im going to have to put my head in the sand for the rest of the season! I hope you guys have your posters ready for the season. I know i have my “If you want money go follow D hall” ready and waiting? The falcons are about winning first. Look at TG. 12 years without a playoff win. I would be upset! the chance to chase a superbowl doesnt come around to often!

I like the additions also because we added alot of “EXPERIENCE”. These additions (Booker and Ferg) with TG will help Matt Ryan out a whole lot. I hope Roddy comes around soon. I can’t wait to see my Falcon offense on the field.

Everyone forgets “Matty Ice” won Boston College a bowl game his senior year with a CLUSTER of mediocre recievers. Now he has 2 vets and TG to throw to… And remember we’re not a pass first team! Yes we need HD and White on the field, but life goes on. No use crying over spilled milk. If Roddy comes back soon… great. If he doesn’t… cry two tears in a bucket, then f*@k it! We all know he’s good but he’s not worth Fitzgerald money yet. This would be his year to prove he might be. But hey, we got like 5 more recievers on the roster. If you’re gonna be a Falcon fan, we need 24 hour fans… no half-assers!
I agree with israel. We still have a talented team in the falcons. Yes we lost two talented individuals but we still have hope. Our defense will suprise a few teams and our offense with put up numbers. I know that roddy will be back soon and our defense will click. Whatever happens by this years end I will still be a falcons fan. I’ve been down with ATL since 1998. TD do what you will and just know that I support it.
Look at it this way if Roddy didn’t want to be here he would have said nothing and at the end of the year taken the highest bidder. He wants to be a Falcon for life and I can respect that. Give him a new deal and let’s get that ring!

This is bull!! It really does seem the Falcons have a curse. I am thinking about the existence of the franchise in general. I have short term memory which makes me look forward but hell two important players out and we havent even seen week one!!!! Dont worry I am just venting, looking forward to preseason to see the birds in action. Upper management will come around with a plan to offset the recievers setbacks. Go FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Ted… What a player gets and what he’s worth is two different things. Don’t know exactly what White got in his new deal, don’t really care for the most part. Am I Roddy fan? YES. Do I think he’s worth all the comotion he caused? NO. He only rushed and signed because HE saw the team making moves in case he didn’t sign and HE knew after TD signed “Fergie” and “Book” he might be out of a spot if waited too long. He’s back… let’s move forward. @Diesel… can always count on u to use reason and logic. GO BIRDS!
