A Look Back at History

June 30th, 2009

Today is Falcons Day on DaveFM.

But, before there was a day on the radio devoted to the team’s history, there was the original Falcons “birthday.”

On this day 44 years ago the NFL awarded the city of Atlanta a franchise.

The team’s history has had its ups and downs, but the relationship with the devoted fans has been anything but hot and cold. So, before the Falcons embark on 2009 and the quest for back-to-back winning seasons, Falcons Radio wanted to tip its hat to countless supporters of the team and the rich memories from seasons past.

Starting at 9 a.m. and continuing throughout the day, DaveFM will air segments including flashbacks and other thoughts from former quarterback Dave Archer.

Segments like this

Regardless of your favorite player or best memory, listen to some of the flashbacks on DaveFM (over the air at 92.9 or click here to listen online). Fans can also text the word “DAVE” to 22929 at points throughout the day for chances to win various prizes.

Happy Birthday, Falcons.

someone really needs to put that in a classy, double-matted, red-and-black background with a solid frame. with the original Falcons logo and the current on on either side. I mean, this is the franchise charter and it’s in a $10 Walmart frame???

    JMIKE, get someone on that!

Happy Birthday to the team that I live and die with. I have so many fond memories especially sleeping in a sleeping bag on a very frigid December night in 1980 to get tickets to the playoff game against Dallas. I look forward to many more memories and with a lot of optimism.

Congratulations to the Falcons and to all my fellow fanatics out there.
We have endured a lot through the years!!! I have a feeling the Superbowl is within reach, or will be soon. Heres to consecutive winning seasons!! I think will will have them back to back finally, and probably many more in a row now that we’ve got Ryan, Turner, White, Gonzalez, Babineaux, Jerry, Abraham, and many others, as well as one of the best coaching staffs inthe league!! GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are so many to thank. I am a long term ( almost 30 yr.) Season ticket holder from Ohio. I and my family have enjoyed ‘every minute and dollar spent’ traveling up and down I-75 to watch our Falcons! Anfd to th4e many road games also.

I guess I must thank more than anyone, Mr. Rankin Smith Sr. and his family. They are the reason there is a Falcons franchise! Thank you so much! Arthur Blank, working so hard to get us to the next level!

And also thank you to everyone who was luckey enough to grace a Falcon uniform!

FALCONS FOREVER!!!! Panthers, Saints, Bucs and them damn Cowboys
    NEVER!!!!!

Looking forward to the home opener and beating the Dolphins!!
