Jerry Leaves After Knee Bump

Falcons first-round draft choice Peria Jerry left Saturday morning’s mini camp practice after bumping his knee during drills.

Head Coach Mike Smith said the team’s medical staff will continue to evaluate the defensive tackle Saturday evening. Smith expects further test results before the end of mini camp.

Though early in the preseason process, the knee bump made for some unsettled nerves among fans. Still, scratches and bruises are common this time of year. The concern comes at a position of great focus by the team, however, as Jerry was the centerpiece of the Falcons’ draft efforts.

As a junior at Ole Miss Jerry recorded 58 tackles (14 for loss). He played a big part in a defensive turnaround from 2007 to 2008. The team ranked fourth in the nation in rushing defense last season after ranking 101st the previous year.

He led the SEC with 18 tackles for loss as a senior and registered 10.5 sacks over the last two seasons.

Jerry admits he has some things to learn, but he’s picking up the schemes.

“Learning something new you’re not going to be as fast as you usually would but I’m getting it,” Jerry said after his second mini camp practice. “They’re throwing it at us but I think I’m picking up on it well and getting better each practice.”

I’m sure he will be fine, but it does make you nervous though.

It’s good to see that Peria Jerry feels that he is getting better with each practice.

You can be sure he’s being taken care of; like it’s been said, Jerry’s the centerpiece… The timing is good, he’ll be up and ready when training camp begins. This defense is going to be one we’ll remember for a Long time!

Stay focused falcons fans. Jerry may have banged his knee but he should be ok. We will be a force this year!

That is real mess up, i hope he gets better soon because we need a healthy big man in the middle. I really hope Anderson steps up this year and play like a 1st first round.

I hope jerry’s injury is not serious. I am looking forward to him playing this season because we raeally need this big man in the midlle. But my biggest concern is Jamal Anderson. I hope that he has a break out season finally. It is all about the defense baby. It is all about the defense baby. Time to step it up.
