Tony, Tony, Tony!

April 24th, 2009

You got a sneak peak at Tony Gonzalez new, No. 88 jersey thanks to Jimmy Luck. Well, that same jersey was used this evening as the team introduced its newest player to Atlanta. The Falcons acquired Gonzalez, a 10-time Pro Bowler in a trade with the Chiefs on Thursday.

With Big Tony on board we will have one of the elite offenses in the league! Build the D through the draft and we could be Champions in the next two years! Great to have Tony on board!

hey dont mis read it though ive been a fan since the late eighties.to have matt ryan is a blessing and im happy to have a good tight end. but we need to address the fact we lost brooking and kearney recently two big holes to fill

It has taken me a couple of days just to let this sink… We picked up the best TE in NFL history, that is only 33, and all we gave up was a projected 54-57 pick next year.WOW! Like Trent Dilfer said, this is one of the best trades in a long time. It is going to allow the Falcons to play defense with their offense by consistently moving the chains. There were a lot of 3rd and 10’s last season that Ryan got us out of. This addition is going to help in a huge way in that area, and in the red zone. 29 3rd down catches last season for Tony.

If Tony Gonzales has the impact on our offense and the corresponding detrimental effect on opposing defenses the pundits say he will, we will have the #1 rated offense in the NFL next year, barring injuries. If Thomas Dimitroff and Coach Smith, et al, can draft on defense as well this year as they drafted last year, then we CAN WIN the next Super Bowl. We do not need a couple of seasons to get there. Remember, we played the Arizona Cardinals better than any other team in the NFC battling for the spot in the Super Bowl. If we had played the Cardinals in the Georgia Dome as the number two seed, and we came within six seconds of being the number two seed (the amount of time left when the panthers snapped the ball to kick the game winning field goal against the Saints in the final regular season game), we would have beaten them – I have no doubt about this.

I think that Matt Ryan last year wasn’t quite ready for the playoffs and the Cards would have definatly beaten them no matter where they played but that being said this year is different. Matt will be better prepared and with the addition of another great option on offence we will be pretty much unstopable. Unfortunatly if we don’t improve on our DBs we won’t be able to stop any of the the Larry Fitzgeralds and Anquan Boldin’s in the league.

now that we the best tight end whos ever played we can focus on defense for the draft and probably get someone big like alphonso smith

Yes..this is the best trade in NFL 09 history.we have the best TE in the leage, just for a projected 54 thru 57 pick next year.Im really happy for him and i believe we should have gotten a CB like alphono or darius butler, because all of the good cb’s are gone exepth Asher Allen

I think Matt Ryan was playoff ready last year. The rookie record for completions in a playoff game was 18 from the 1939 playoffs, and the quarterback who held the record just died last December at the age of 94, and I can’t remember his name right now. Matt was 26 out of 40 on his completions and attempts. At one point he was 17 of 21. I believe the sole deciding point in that game against the Cardinals was the 12th man – and primarily the crowd noise, and secondarily the crowds emotional energy. If the game occurred in the Georgia Dome we have the 12th man, and the Cardinals are fighting it. To me this was the difference in the game.

It’s a good possibility that the atlanta falcons colud go to the superbowl, but it is going to take some hard work getting, they are going to have to work hard to get there and teamwork will be needed.
